Song #28 - "Stuck On You" - Elvis

#1 for weeks of April 25th, May 2, 9, and 16th, 1960.

The first Billboard #1 that was actually recorded in 1960, and it's by a newly honorably discharged Elvis nonetheless. As far as Elvis songs go, this one's probably no stranger to most people, but for those who don't know it, if you like Elvis, you'll love "Stuck On You".

My first exposure to this song was many years ago on a VHS of 1950's and 60's era songs set to classic Disney cartoons called "DTV", done perhaps as a parody of MTV. So already the song has a personal nostalgic value for me.

This song must have been greatly anticipated as it was recorded on March 20th, 1960 and released a mere three days later. Most singles would take around a few weeks to months to get released!

Even though most say that Elvis changed after he came back from the army, his classic singing style is still in full force here. This is despite the fact that the song isn't as vocally demanding as "Hound Dog", or "Jailhouse Rock". In fact, most of the song features more of a laid back vocal. However, it features a nice 12-bar blues progression and non-obtrusive backing vocals which add extra spice to the tune.

For much of the 1960's, Elvis would heavily concentrate on film roles. However, it's certainly not acting that Elvis was known for, but catchy tunes like this one. "Stuck On You" acts as another divider between the old 1950's Elvis and the near future, "Viva Las Vegas", Elvis.

Final Verdict - Just like, "A Big Hunk o' Love", this song will certainly appeal to you if you are an Elvis and/or rockabilly fan. It's meant to be a fun finger snapping tune destined to get you off your feet dancing. Give this one regular spins on whatever device you use to play music on!
